Courchevel Ski
Is this place still called Courchevel or is it Moscow on snow? The recent influx of Russians, including various oligarchs, has been staggering. 1850 is widely accepted as being one of the top french ski resorts with a nightlife quite capable of keeping up with the skiing. The town has quite a dreary centre, but this doesn't stop the rich, famous and celebrities such as Victoria Beckham visiting on a regular basis. The skiing into the 3 Valleys is brilliant, offering over 600km of pistes - Courchevel, along with the other 3 Valley resorts, are a must for all keen skiers, despite the price tag. Courchevel is a fantastic base from which to explore the mountain, and the Michelin starred restaurants.

Where to eat in Courchevel 1850?
American Express will do nicely thank you. (as tina turner would sing if she came here) Quality is generally very good to please the well heeled clientele. Chapelle T: 0479 09 19 48 for carnivores especially Lamb Via Ferrata T: 0479 080 207 for delicious pizza Grand Café: T: 0479 08 4297 for elegant thai food. The Bergerie T: 047508 2470 romantic and good for kiddies, traditonal favourites are served in rustic surroundings Saulire T: 0479 08 07 52 - local specialities at decent prices Refuse - steak pies are very good Chablchov - with 2 Michelin stars, this is a real gourmand's delight. Try the 3 course set menu Bateau - another 2 Michelin starts awarded!
and finally a trip to Courcheval is not a trip without a visit to La Praz and the Bistro du Praz for a special treat of fois gras served in up to 12 different ways. You can make this a lunch trip or an evening trip but if you are stopping for lunch don't expect to have the energy to ski all afternoon. |
|
| Nightlife.. |
|
 |
|
|
Courchevel Bars, Apres Ski and Nightlife The Aprez ski has something for everyone, but needless to say the prices are high. Still, its worth it for a night to remember, non? Try The Jump Bar T: 0479 080900 which has a great atmosphere and reasonable prices in comparison to some other bars. Bar L'equipe is fun as is TJ;s and Gringos.
Head to Piggy's Bar or Mangoise and treat yoursef to a cocktail or two.
Things really get going late in Courchevel. if you wish to schmooze with the stars (Richard Branson has been reported to be a regular at 1850) there are some exclusive clubs, like Les Caves, though entry may depend on a trip to the Louis Vuitton shop first. Check out Oxygen, a cool new lounge bar, or the Funky Fox which stays open until 4am and has live DJ/music , games and pool.

Courchevel Hotels You'll be pleased to know that not everywhere is expensive but it helps to carry some good quality plastic. There are over fifty hotels to choose from in the area and Courchevel 1850's accommodation really does offer the best choice for the hedonist. Aman which we consider to be the best hotel chain in the world www.aman.com has an outpost here Le Melezin. Le Melezin T: 0033 479 080 133. It is frankly one of the best, great situation beside Bellecote slope which for us at Snowbrainer is the favoured location. (also the massages are to die for). The hotel itself is probably as far away from your typical Savoyard rustic ski chalet as you can get. At first it can feel quite strange, especially if you associate ski holidays with lots of blond wood and hand carved heart shapes. It wont take long before you start enjoying this all new ski experience, it's still cosy but in a more modern way. There is a flavour of the East mixed with the feeling that you could be staying in a very stylish fortress. There's a very good health spa with an indoor pool, an elegant restaurant to dine in and lots of calm spaces to retreat to. Ahhh bliss.
Le Kilimandjaro T: 0033 479 01 4646 is a stunning building at the top. OK so it's not in the best location but if you can afford to stay here you can afford a taxi or 2.
Le St Joseph T: 0033 (4)7908 1616 e: info@kessaintjoseph.com Looking for comfort and luxury with the feeling of being in the old Savoie? Le St Joseph has embraced the traditional and gone for an old fashioned style with real antiques. In fact its' so convincing it's hard to believe this isn't really all that old. Byblos T: 0033 479 009 800 another 5 Star has its fans
Bellecote is also an excellent bet. T: 0033 479 081 019
A good 3 Star is the Hotel de la Croisette T: 0033 479 08 0900 www.hoteldelacroisette, it is in a good location and you can then pop down to the bar Le Jump.
Le Courcheneige T: +33 4 79 08 02 59 , www.courcheneige.com, is another great mid priced hotel, conveniently located right on the piste.
Looking for an apartment to rent in Courchevel 1850?

| About The Mountain |
|
 |
|
|
Courchevel Ski The skiing in Courcheval is second to none and with the right pass opens up over 600km of pistes covered by the Three Valleys. Snow reliability is excellent as is the lift system. We at Snowbrainer love boarding and skiing here.
Advanced - So much to do and so little time if you are only there for a week. Couloirs at the top are a must and there is a lot of steep terrain to be tackled on and off pist. It is considered one of the best off piste places in the Alps if not the World. if you pop over to Italy or Switzerland directly from the resort you can try your hand at heli skiing as well
Intermediates - We can't think of a better place it really is that good! The 3 valleys is the playground of Intermediates with many opportunities to get some mileage under your belt.
Beginners - Brilliant nursery slopes, the Bellecot green run is a great place to start. It is one of 8 free beginners lifts.
Cross Country - 121km of trails and great lunches!
Snowboarders 3 funparks with a great lift system to help you get around. Experts will love the off-piste too.
Ski Lift Passes for Meribel, La Tania, Courchevel and the Three Valleys
Where to find cheap lift tickets for the 3 Valleys? We recommend going to www.s3v.com/winter which is the Society of the Three Valleys and offers Lift Passes online. They publish many types including Individuals, Family Pass, Beginners Mini Pass, and Pedestrian Pass. You can buy for the local Valley area of for the 3 Valleys as a whole. Family passes tend to include a 20% reduction. If you have one of the plastic P@s lift passes you can recharge these on the Internet too. If you don't have one don't fear they can either send one out to your or you can pick it up at the Tourist Office in the resort.

Avoid the Panoramic on top of the Saulire lift. Overpriced to say the least. Sorry about that but we just don't like it. What we do like...
Money no object? Then head for The Cap Horn T: 0479 08 3310 where a reservation is essential.
The Jump T: 0479 080900 at the bottom of town serves good value food
Bel Air is our favourite with regards to our own wallet, excellent food and good terraces to sit out on. |

Group of us booked ski hire, snowboards and boots – the works from Snowbrainer. Got chatting to them and they recommended the Jump bar near the lifts – had many funny après ski times there throughout the week. Great skis and snowboards and all were happy – see you next year!

Courchevel 1850 is often referred to as one of the leading ski destinations in the world and I think a visit there would show you why. The skiing is fab, the hotels even better and the Michelin star restaurants are to die for. Expensive but well worth it.
By Parker Family on 13/02/2010 16:25:21
I love skiing, boyfriend loves snowboarding and we both love Michelin starred restaurants – great! Courchevel has 3 superb restaurants – we would definitely recommend all 3 of the restaurants although our favourite is Le Bateau Ivre at the Hotel Pomme Pin – great atmosphere and absolutely superb food! Go and try it and be seriously impressed….the hotel is gorgeous too!
By A Johnson on 04/01/2010 10:20:52
Went to Courchevel with 3 kids under 12 in the Christmas holidays – we had a wonderful time as did the kids. Many activities to take part in and enjoy when not skiing and snowboarding, especially the cinema where there kids enjoyed a couple of films during the week when they got a little tired – too much fresh air! Really rate Courchevel though as a family resort.
By Charlie Boarden on 11/01/2010 10:00:17
Courchevel has always been a favourite of our family. The choice of 5 star hotels (9 at the last count with another 1 in planning) is amazing especially when Paris only has 12 and rest of France another 30 odd. Combine this with the michelin star restaurants, expensive night clubs, amazing boutiques and you can see why Courchevel attracts an eclectic mix of clients with some of the more famous oligarchs from Russia amongst them. The 3 valley skiing is pretty impressive to.
