About The Resort..

Skiing in Les Gets

Les Gets Resort

Les Gets is a quaint but expanding village close to Geneva. It is a little scattered around the valley but getting around is helped by the free 'petit train'. Lovely! There is lots to do and has many fine shops and restaurants to choose from. It can be a little quiet at times but definately gets busier come the weekend. The village dates back to the 11th century and its name come from the old French word, 'jets' which was used for the traditional slopes used to bring down the timber from the upland regions. Les Gets is not all about winter sports - there is a lot of traditional architecture and regional cuisine to enjoy. Visit the church whose organ dates back to 1910 or the Museum of Mechanical Music. Your lift pass allows you to ski/board in Abondance, Avoriaz 1800, Champery, Chatel, Le Chappelle d'Abondance, Les Crossets, Morgins & Morzine.

About The Mountain

Skiing in Les Gets

Les Gets is part of the mighty Portes du Soleil - a huge cross-border skiing resort (France and Switzerland) linked by extensive lift system. The first of the lifts were built in the 1960's between Les Crosets, Champery and Avoriaz. Today the Portes du Soleil region is one of the largest in the world with 14 rsorts in France and Switzerland. 650km of slopes for skiers of all levels.
snowboarders and skiers on pisteNot the best of places to start out from for a day in the Portes Du Soleil but a short drive to Ardent really helps the days skiing. However Les Gets own slopes which are shared with Morzine should keep you interested enough for a few day swith it 48 lifts ad 110km of runs. Recent investment in the resort is also an added bonus. Due to low altitude and the woods it is a great place in bad weather especially as queues are not really an issue locally.
Advanced
Look for the snow good days and head off piste, whilst the blacks on the upper slopes of Mount Chey are worth a go especially if a little bumpy
ski in powder on pisteIntermediates
Lots of excellent reds locally and the ability to explore the giant regio know as the Port du Soleil
Beginners
Low altitude can prove to be a small problem on the nursery slopes with a lack of snow cover. None the less the village nursery slopes are nothing but convenient. Nurseries are available to take care of hte very small children and specially designed playgrounds introduce junior skier to the joys of the slopes. There is a special 'Grand Cry' area based around American indians that allows young skiers a theme based setting for their endeavours on piste.

There is a freestyle terrain park located up Mont Chery with a quarter pipe, hip, jumps, rails and a boarder cross and a slalom course too.
The freestyle district is ideal for experienced enthusiasts who can add to their range of trics on big airs, the hip and handrails.
Whilst the local slopes of Les Gets itself are ideal for beginners and intermediates there are not many of them.
Cross Country
If you love your Cross Country (Ski de Fond) there is 18km of various terrain to go for. The Les Chavannes altitude 1500m, accessible by gondola, road and the Le Mont-Chery - altitude 1500m accessible by gondola. Ski schools all offer lessons and guided excursions.

Reviews

Tried Les Get last year with the family and what a good choice it was. A charming village with access to the Portes du Soleil, we had an excellent weeks skiing especially through the woods to Morzine and Avoriaz. It is a low resort but last year that barely mattered as there was so much snow at times the pistors didn’t know what to do with it. My elder son enjoyed ski school which is always a big plus. We liked it so much I think the wife has already got the credit card out and booked again!

We’d been told Les Gets was great for families and that pretty much sealed the deal for us considering there were 3 families with a total of 10 kids between us heading out to the Alps. We all had a great trip – skiing was superb, as were the snowboarding lessons that many of the kids opted for! Many days we stopped up at Grande Ourse – great food in the mountains and warming vin chaud when that time comes…quite frequently the parents thought on this winter holiday!

Ski Les Gets, Morzine, Avoriaz and the rest of the Portes du Soleil from this delightful town close to Geneva. We have always found it a good family base for our ski holiday. And go with two other families most years. We found your ski hire site on Google and would just like to say thank you for saving us over £400 between the lot of us. Very impressive.

Last year we stayed at Hotel Stella - very good food, wifi, transfers. Ski Hire went well - cheers

Les Gets is a great place for a family holiday and your shop Michaud Sports was very helpful especially with the boys who wanted to change to snowboards in the middle of the week.

By Ali H on 11/01/2010 09:36:30

Big group of us from work went on a ski and snowboard trip here to Les Gets…we went during a half term week and it was pretty busy…but we still had a great time despite more skiers and boarders out and about. The après ski and nightlife was pretty fun…we all spent many riotous night in the Irish Bar then headed over to the old Igloo disco…amusing evenings spent here in to the early hours. Great atmos – all in all a superb trip – thanks for the group discounts Snowbrainer…see ya next year!
