About The Mountain
Mountain Information at Zell am See
132km of pistes to keep you happy but a small problem can be getting onto the slopes in the morning. Lengthy waits for the main cable cars and gondolas are sometimes a gesture we could do without.
Zell am See is a sunny resort but 90% of the slopes are now covered by snowmaking. If any problems just head for the year long glacier at Kaprun which is about 10km away.
The ski pass is valid at all 57 lifts including the glacier ski area on the Kitzsteinhorn. Free ski shuttles run between Kaprun, Zell am See, Bruck, Fush, Niedernsill, Piesendorf and Maishofen.
For Experts Zell has a number of black runs but do they deserve that classification. You be the judge!
For Intermediates Excellent place to practice those turns. oK so it's not a high mileage place but the mountains are beautiful and the views are stunning
For Beginners Not the greatest place to start your career!
Snowboarders There is a small park with a hip, a selection of kickers and some quite difficult rails and a half pipe.
There is a Fun Park on the Kitzsteinhorn, halfpipe on the Schmittenhohe. If you are looking for some freeriding then we recommend Kitzteinhorn.
For events and Apres Board activity head to Kaprun or Zell am See
Cross country 30km to spend the time on if conditions allow.

Some great little places to choose from and also well marked on the piste maps.
The 120 year old Glocknerhaus T: 06542 73179 is worth a call in as is Ebenbergalm T: 066438 14141 which is a lovely little hut with homemade specialities and a terrace.
Pizizgauer Hutte T: 065497861 has a great view and gets busy, maybe because it always gets recommended. Get a snowmobile to pull you bak to the lift!
The Berghotel T:06542 72489 is good but pricey and the cafe-restaurant Areitalm T: 06542 57177 comes with a great chef.
Ski and Snoboardschule Zell am See T: 043 6542 56020 A word of caution, sometimes the group lessons can be a little large. Try and book an individual lesson for some really good one on one tuition.

Reviews
Zell Am See is as the guidebooks tell you a very pretty town in a beautiful location next to the frozen lake which you can walk on - beautiful we all thought! The ski field is not the largest but the runs are easy and there was no queues when we were there. It is also easy to get to Saalbach with its huge array of ski runs and another choice would be Kaprun (we never got there). When we went in Jan 09 the snow was unbelievable and we all enjoyed the place. Hans Shnapps is the place for food on the mountain whilst go to Diele and Crazy Daisy’s for drinks later on.

Just had a great week here at the end of Jan 2010 in Zell am See which is a fabulous resort. The ski area is adequate for a week or so but you are really close to Saalbach (bus trip under 10 euros and about 25 minutes) Top tip: Buy the super ski pass for Saalbach as well and enjoy another resort whilst away for that weeks sking. Enjoy the drinks in Eurosports whilst they fit you out with your ski hire.
