Ski Selva Gardena
Selva is a village at the heart of the Dolomites, and the best known resort in the Val Gardena valley - famous for world cup ski races. The resort has a real mix of Italian and Austrian traditions and there are plenty of activities for non-skiers too. The local dialect of Ladin - a derivative of Latin - is something to listen out for. It is a great place to stay if you want to ski the Sella Ronda region.
The village's buildings are pretty and built in the traditional Tirolean-style. When choosing where to stay, be careful that you pick somewhere near the lifts. The buses are useless and using taxis constantly is an expensive way of getting around.
This video shows off a blue sky and a great atmosphere surrounding a waterski event at the bottom of the slopes near the resort.

| Accommodation |
|
 |
|
|
Selva Gardena Accommodation There are about twenty 4-star hotels and forty 3-star hotels plus a wide variety of chalets to choose from. The hotels tend to run there own mini bus services because the public transport is notoriously bad. The Aaritz is the best located 4 star hotel opposite the Ciampinoi gondola. We like the the Gran Baita - a large luxurious sport-hotel which is close to the lifts.

| About The Mountain |

Selva Gardena Ski The area is huge and breathtakingly beautiful. The Sella Ronda is a huge circuit, but is by no means the only skiing available. The area above Ortisei shouldn't be neglected, nor should the area above St Christina. For beginners there are some enjoyable gentle slopes with progression available on the groomed runs at Col Raiser or the gentle blue pistes in the Alpe di Siusu area. For Intermediates there's lots to do with over 175km in the Val Gastea region. The ski area is almost perfect for intermediates, with a range of blues, reds and a few blacks all available in bucket loads.
Advanced skiers aren't quite as generously catered for. The Val Gardena World Cup piste, the Saslong, is good fun and is kept in racing condition most of the time. There are no moguls, as pistes are kept groomed. Snowboarders - there is a board park at Selva.
Sella Ronda tour It is supposedly the biggest ski area in the world and the Sella Ronda tour gets you around it in a day. 90% of the runs have snow making equipment on them and they are advised by Technoalpin the resident experts in this field who are based in Bolzano.
Val Gardena is a member of the leading resorts of the world
To see how much skiing you have done in a day go on to the website www.dolomitisuperski.com at the end of your days skiing or snowboarding and type in your lift pass code in the "check ski performance" section and it will tell you your altitude, number of runs. your route and times. COOL!

We normally ski in France so decided it was time for a change and headed off to Italy. We chose Selva as we had read a bit about the valley and found it good value. Lots of very good restaurants with food to die for. Loved skiing in Italy and were fortunate to have a big dump of snow just before we arrived
