Courmayeur
Courmayeur sits on the Italian side of Mount Blanc and is a traditional old Italian village filled with good shops especially clothes shops, cobbled streets and attractive buildings. A fabulous place to go if only to watch the world go by. The village itself is traffic free in the centre and the après ski is just brilliant whilst being very refined. A little advice, leave your skis and boots up the mountain by the cable car at the end of day rather than having to walk back into town with them on. They are safe in the lockers and it is much safer / comfortable obviously walking through the town in a pair of well gripped trainers.

Courmayeur Restaurant
Courmayeur has some wonderful restaurants to choose from. An excellent choice is the Pierre Alexis on the narrow side street of Via Roma serving fine traditional Italian foods and great wine - there is also a number of free glasses of sparkling wine as an aperitif! Du Tunnel and Terrazza serve fantastic pizzas - the best in town - and they are absolutely enormous! On the other side of the valley is the Baita Hermitage serving great food but also the fun and lively atmosphere means it is a good afternoon drinking spot in the winter season. When you arrive be sure to pick up the promotional restaurant booklet as there are many fine restaurants listed in there.

Courmayeur Bars

Courmayeur is renownded for the amount of bars that entice their customers in by offering delicious anti pasti and drinks for free. Bar Roma is a beautifully decorated bar with ornate and regal Italian furniture. There is a hub of activity in the late afternoon at Bar Roma, and then at around 8.00pm a fine spread is set out for customers - absolutely free of charge. Other popular and lively bars are The American and the cocktail bar Le Prive. If you fancy a dance then head to the nearby village of Entreves where there are a couple of jazzy nightclubs.

Courmayeur Winter Activities
What kind of activities besides skiing and snowboarding are available in Courmayeur?
Shopping is the absolute key activity here in Courmayeur, what with so many fantastic shops to browse around you may end up simply exploring the town and seeing what they have to offer this way. If shopping doesn't appeal then why not head to the sports centre and hit the gym - unfortunately there is no swimming pool though. However In nearby Pre St Dider there are beautiful thermal baths and a swimming pool. Courmayeur is also home to the Alpine Museum, an ice rink and a cinema to catch the latest flicks on the big screen. Dog sledding here is popular, as is snow biking, snow-shoeing, indoor golf, paraglyding, squash and tennis and finally a climbing wall.

Courmayeur Mountain Restaurants Interestingly there are more mountain restaurants in Courmayeur than here are ski lifts. With over 23 mountain restaurants to choose from it is important to choose the best so you have just as enjoyable lunches as you do ski runs! Maison Vielle is a rustic style restaurant with a spectacular back drop of Mont Blanc - they serve great food as well as the finest hot chocolate in this area. Dinners here are available and transport is arranged via a skidoo. Zerotta on the Val Venny side of the resort serves excellent food even if the decor is a little tired looking.
Plan Checrouit is a must visit even if you are only here for a weekend! Maison Vielle is very good. To be honest you could visit more than 20 of them and you won't be disappointed.

Courmayeur is a fabulous destination for a mini ski break. We flew to Geneva and rented a car, passed through Chamonix and the Mont Blanc Tunnel arriving in the early evening at our hotel. Because we had a car we stayed just outside Courmayeur and drove to the lifts each day. Top tip. Book your ski hire at a ski rental shop on the mountain because you can then leave them there overnight which allows you to hit the bars quicker! And what bars to choose from, the best part is the array of free food on offer (as long as you drink- not a problem!) Lunch on the slopes is equally good and we tried the Maison Vielle which we booked on the first run of the day because they can get crowded. Every skier must visit Courmayeur at least once if only to check out the lovely people not skiing but sunning themselves all weekend! Brilliant because it means the lifts are not so full once you get up the mountain

Courmayeur is just the best place for a quick weekend of skiing. A quick transfer from Geneva. Great food on the mountain and in resort, even better drinks! Rented from you up the mountain as you said it was the best idea.It was and allowed us to enjoy the apres ski in town without carrying our skis around.
