SoeldenSoelden ResortSoelden is the principal town of the Ötztal Arena and has built a reputation for it's fantastic skiing and especially its formidable après ski scene, making the resort one of Austria's best ski resorts. Glaciers surround the district of Solden, as well as pasturelands and alpine peaks to create unbelievable vistas when on the slopes. Soelden's main hangup however is its traffic, so looking both ways is important especially if you've just left one of the resorts many bars. Soelden is a sprawling place along the river that attracts many visitors especially from Germany & Holland.
There are a lot of alternative versions and misspellings of the resort name so you may find information by looking up solden, soldon, and selden. |

A friend of ours always swears by the Tavola in the hotel Rosengarten because he doesn't need ot make a reservation which is rather good as he never knows when he wil finish drinking. And believe us when we say Soelden is a drinkers paradise, it's sometimes very hard to leave the bar. |

Soelden Ski
With 148 km of slopes Soelden lays claim to having the largest glacier terrain in Austria and connects three 3000m peaks by lifts that are known as Soelden's "Big 3". Schwarze Schneid (3370m), Tiefenbachkogl (3309m) and Gaisloachkogl (3058) which provides some of the most spectacular views that can ever be imagined. The contemporary design of the new gondola lift introduced in December 2010 to take you straight up to this latter peak is very impressive and gets you straight into the action as quickly as possible. The heights of such peaks as the Gaisloachkogl means it is no surprise that Solden is as snowsure as as a resort could be. Beware of queues however especially in high season.
For Experts
Soelden has kept areas ungroomed and you can easily find the bumps. Having said that though a lot of the black pistes on the map bear no resemblance to the actual slopes. I guess they just like using black ink. For the more advanced it is worth hiring a guide and getting off piste as at the top of the valley is on of the Alp's premier places to go. Some of the steeper slopes are the night skiing show slope and the World Cup slope at Rettenbach Glacier, worth having a go if you like the speedier runs...
Intermediates
150km of pistes should keep you amused before you set off for that next drink or two. Lots of the pistes are genuine reds some of them a little serious especially on the way home at the end of the days skiing. The big 3 glaciers take around 4 hours of hard skiing to complete a circuit.
Beginners
The beginners The beginners slopes are located just above the village at Innerwald and suffer from poor snow. Hopefully you will be able to advance to the slopes at Giggijoch which has a number of blues. Word of warning stay away from Hochsolden
Snowboarders
Solden has a Base Boarders park which has a 1/2 pipe. 3 lines of kickers for all boarding abilities. An number of rails, ramps that are changed through the season by the Base team make this a First class choice for boarders. Soelden is simply on of the best in the Alps
