Westendorf
Westendorf ResortA charming Austrian alpine village; Westendorf is perfect for families looking for red and blue ski runs; so ideally for beginners and intermediates. Over four years ago Westendorf was linked to the nearby ski resort of Kitzbühel and in the ski season of 2008/2009 saw this resort get a gondola and piste links to SkiWelt. SkiWelt is the vast ski area between the two major ski resorts of Söll and Brixen; who have shared a ski lift pass for a lengthy period of time. Despite a relatively short bus ride between Westendorf and Kitzbühel one could argue that Westendorf is now at the centre of one of the largest lift-linked arean in the Austrian Alps.
A brief piece of local history; 1998 saw Westendorf voted as one of the most beautiful villages in Europe in a floral competition...so why not visit Westendorf and check out the Austrian alpine charm for yourself.

| Resort Restaurants |
Westendorf Restaurants As with fine restaurants in many a ski resort; you will find great restaurants in Westendorf hotels. In addition to these hotels; recommended to Snowbrainer are the fine Schermer and Jakobwirt restaurants in Westerndorf. These hotel restaurants offer fine traditional Austrian cuisine which will please the family and big groups.
Another mention is the fine Austrian sweets and cakes that are on offer in many shops in the village in addition to the restaurants; here at Snowbrainer we think they are fabulour and try to eat them at every opportunity when we go to this family run ski resort!

| Nightlife.. |
Apres Ski and Nightlife in Westendorf The nightlife and apres ski in Westendorf is quite lively for an Austrian family ski resort; however, Westendorf is a relatively small ski resort so your choice of ski bars and restaurants is limited. The Liftstürberl is pretty packed at the end of the day; right at the bottom of the mountain by the gondola, this socail place is a good start for a long night of apres ski in Westendorf.
As with many European resorts; there is often a token Irish pub; Westendorf is not without and The Village Pub is a good choice. Guinness lovers will not want to miss this sociable bar and can be sure of a great night with 'good Irish craic'.
Due to the family nature of Westendorf; when you come down after a day on the slopes skiing and snowboarding; you can be sure of a great time with the pubs providing fun family atmosphere, however, this tends to fade early on and you will find limited places open late. Many bars will stay open late although they will tend to be quieter as the night goes on.

Top Ski Runs Westendorf Being part of one of the largest linked ski resorts in Austria; the Ski Welt covers of 250km of ski pistes in this superb ski and snowboard area. There are a large number of black, red and blue runs, and many of the pistes are actually red so perfect for intermediates. A large part of the Ski Welt area has a number of easier intermediate runs; should you wish to go further afield then there is pretty easy access to the Kitzbuhel-Kirchberg.
With 8 black runs, 50 red and 62 blue runs there is great skiing and snowboarding for everyone; although the intermediate skiers are probably the group with the largest choice.

My husband and I spent a week at the Hotel Jakobwirt over the new Year. A good choice as it turns out due to the great food with attentive service. We spent some time in the village pub and many a happy apres ski hour in Gerry's Inn. The skiing was good and my husband enjoyed the off piste. We will definitely return to the Ski Welt area and Westendorf in particular.
