Ski Soll
Soll is a popular resort with families as well as big groups looking for good skiing and fun times on the mountains this year. One of the nine villages in the Ski Welt, the largest ski area in Austria; you will find Ellman, Scheffau and Westendorf all close by; you can be sure to have a multitude of ski runs for you to explore. Not entirely ideal for beginners; when there is good snow this is a superb resort for intermediates who can cruise through the spectacular ski pistes that this ski area has to offer. The ski slopes are a fifteen minute walk away, however there are frequent bus services but these do get busy.
A pretty and friendly Austrian alpine village; Soll has a magnificent church that is lit up at night. A popular resort with British skiers and snowboarders; depending on how much walking you like to do whilst carrying snowboards and skis, we would advise you to stay in accommodation on the edge of the village simply so you can get to the lifts first.

Soll Restaurants
As with many of the hotels in Austrian ski resorts; you will often find the finer restaurants in Soll here. The Greil offers fine food all year round as well as fine Austrian buffets at various times of the year.
The Schindlhaus is probably the best place in town; it is run by the Winkler brothers and has rightly found its way into Austria's Michelin guide. Tel: 05333 516 136 Good organic food can be found at Hotel Postwirt Tel: 05333 5221 whilst Giovanni's does excellent pizzas and is ideal for big groups and families looking for a fun night out. For fine Austrian cakes head for Enzersberger Coffee House Tel: 05333 5505 |

Nightlife and Apres Ski in Soll
Soll Bars The Austrian ski resorts are often renowned for their apres ski and nightlife. A few yeas ago Soll was widely acknowledged as having one of the more raucous social scenes. Live music is often put on at the popular Salvenstadl pub, or if you want the whole package of a night just head to the Whiskymuhle which is great for the early evening drink followed by live music and eventually becoming a club night. With the live music being a common theme you will find that the Cow Shed (Tel: 05333 6373) bar has many fans. Cocktail fans, head for Leo's Tel: 05333 20360

Soll Accommodation Soll Hotels Be careful and think about what you want. The free bus does not go everywhere! An example of this is the splendid Alpenschloss T:05333 6400 www.alpenschlossl.com which is a lovely mini chateau. On the bus loop during the day it can take over 30 mins to walk to at night.
If you want to stay in the centre the 4 Star Postwirt T:05333 5221 is well located. The central 3 star Felwebel (ww.feldwebel.at) is good and has internet access.
For those on a budget try the centrally located AprathotelSchindlhaus apartments (700m from the gondola) or even better we like the apartments attached to the Bergland Hotel T: 05333 5450
On a tight budget? Looking for a good 2 star with food and wine included? Lodge Mounty is 800m from the centre and has the ski bus stopping 100m away. |

| About The Mountain |
|
 |
|
|
Soll Ski Linked to Ski Wel region it is the biggest in Austria and will keep most boarders and skiers happy. Remember though some of the mountains can be a little low but recent investments in snowmaking equipment have helped enormously. A word of advice; spend 5 euros and buy the 3D pop up Mountain map which is a lot easier to read. Most runs are relatively easy even if they are pretty short; which means getting round the area can take a little bit of time.
For Experts
There is not a lot of challenging runs; although there are further blacks in Scheffau and Ellmau but perhaps it's better to head off piste with a guide. There is superb off piste skiing and boarding to be had with a guide here so if you can, do take advantage of this.
For Intermediates
Intermediates will love the Ski Welt area and you will easily travel a lot of kilometres over a week. OK some of the reds are really only blue's but don't let this put you off
For Beginners
If snow is good you will have a good time the beginners area is set aside and will give you ample opportunity to learn without being knocked over. A lack of snow though can mean some icy conditions - so make sure your skis are well edged.
Snowboarders
There are 4 terrain parks in the Ski Welt region and 3 half pipes. haing said that most boarders head off to Westendorf for the park there which is very popular so lets be honest and say it is a bit of a distance away.
Soll has over 30km of cross country skiing for you to explore; however they are not as interesting as as the distances between Hopfgarten and Kelchsau. However; the lack of snow cover often means that this is a problem when wanting to go further afield with cross country skiing as the terrain can be quite slushy and icy.

Soll Mountain Restaurants There are quite a few mountain restaurants although you will find in many that there are long queues and Ski Welt give you over 73 to choose form however the good ones tend to get crowded.
You must try the Stockblalm: (Tel:05333 5127) A converted cowshed near Hoschsoll which serves delicious roasted chicken on a spit. You can eat this whilst watching the staff making bread and cheese..sample these for afters!
The revolving restaurant Ager (Tel:05335 2216) at the top of the Hohe Salve Gondola (good for non skiers too if you need a meeting place) is worth a visit for the view alone.

A particularly popular resort that offers many different leisure activities is the Panoramabad Soll. Here you will be able to use the heated indoor pool, and an outdoor pool in the summer months as well as a sauna, steam and simply relaxation away from the slopes.

Top Ski Runs at Soll With many easy runs for intermediates; Soll is a great resort for those who love to cruise the mountain slopes within their comfort zone. With many blue and red runs; you can be sure to find many pistes that you will enjoy time and time again.
For beginners you will not find much here on Soll; there is a big area of nursery slopes however, the main beginners area can often get icy and slushy.
With only 2 black runs from Hohe Salve towards Hochsoll and Kalbersalve are the most challenging pistes for expert skiers at Soll. Travel further afield towards Scheffau and Ellmau for more challenging obstacles; but you will find that this resort will not provide the necessary challenges the expert and advanced skiers will find necessary when on holiday to ski and snowboard!

I have skied in Soll many times over the last 7 years often staying at our favourite the Postwirt hotel which is first rate. The Ski Welt area is brilliant with good lifts and snowmaking facilities. However a trip to Scheffau or Ellmau breaks the week up nicely. We used the Snow and Fun shop that you recommended and we would just like to say a big thank you. Brilliant service.

Nightlife begins at the bottom of the home run. Try the Hexen Alm early on then ski down to the Salvenstaddle on the edge of town - this is the real home of Soll apres ski. There are live bands several times a week. The Stubai in the Postwirt hotel also has live bands two or three times a week, starting around 9pm.Other good places to stay include the Gansleit hotel where in a good season you can ski back to the door. Overall, Soll and the Ski Welt is an intermediate skiers dream. That dream also comes with you 26% off ski hire this season, a big thank you from the Turner group.

Simply the best ski holiday I have been this year (well it is only Jan). We stayed in the centre of the town in the Hotel Tenne Garni which is a 5 minute walk to the pistes. Good location and decent food which set us up nicely for the days lessons in ski school. Not the best lessons, not the worse. Ski rental was excellent at Snow+Fun and was very quick.

Top tip - don't wait for the ski bus to the slopes take a taxi if there are a few of you, it costs about 1.5 Euros each. No struggling with skis or fighting your way onto a bus. Thanks for the 26% off this year, it makes a difference on the ski hire especially with 5 of us. Overall A great Xmas week of skiing and as family we think Soll is the place to go.
