Skiing in SeefeldSeefeld has twice been the venue for the Winter Olympics and is close to Innsbruck. It has a brilliant network for cross country skiing and is generally a very good resort to learn to ski in. Seefeld has a wonderful pedestrianised centre with a number of people who don't even come for the skiing. Upmarket indeed with three 5* hotels as well! Maybe cross country enthusiasts amongst us hould head here because there are around 262km of excellent tracks. Innsbruck is close by too. |

Ski Tirol Seefeld is part of the larger region of Tirol, a skiing area so vast the possibilities are literally endless. The largest skiing arena's can be found in Ishgl, Solden, in the Brixental or in the Zillertal. Find all further Tirolean skiing areas by visiting www.ski.tyrol.comCross Country in TirolIf you've got the stamina Tirol can provide you with the tracks! There is 4000 kilometres of groomed trails, 2000 of which are for skaters, on these tracks you can expect to travel through enchanting forests, scenic meadows, and be surrounded by glorious mountain views. All of the trails are checked regularly to ensure they are in good condition. Head to Tirol and discover the mountains in a new way!
Tirol's Glaciers
Kaunertal, Pitztal, Stubaital, Solden and Hintertux make up the five resorts in the Tirol region that have an on site glacier, no need to wait to ski!
Solden - otztal Altitude: 1.350m - 3.340m Open from: Early September until June Km of slopes: 148
Stubaier Gletscher Altitude: 1.750m - 3.210m Open from: Throughout the year Km of slopes: 110
Hintertuxer Gletscher Altitude: 1.500m - 3.250m Open from: Throughout the year Km of slopes: 86
Kaunertale Gletscher Altitude: 1.350m - 3.200m Open from: October until early June Km of slopes: 148
Pitztaler Gletscher Altitude: 1.640m - 3.440m Open from: September until May Km of slopes: 148 Seefeld SkiBeginnersSeefeld is an excellent resort for beginners to learn in. The ski schools is very good and the slopes are gentle to start on. Lessons begin around the Geigenbuhel area.
Intermediates For intermediates take the mountain railway up to the Rosshutte where you will find the more challenging slopes. If it's day one and you are still getting your legs then head to teh Gschwandetkopf which is close to the village and has easier runs.
Advanced Seefeld is limited for advanced skiers and boarders, we'd suggest you head up to the Rosshutte and if you love moguls then the Seefelder Joch will give you a challenge. Best bet is to hire a guide for a day and head over to the far side of Harmelekopf where the off piste can be excellent.
Snowboarders There is a half pipe and snowboard park, freeriders with experience check out our comments for experts and you'll probably want to follow suit though perhaps not the mogul field!
Cross Country
There is lots of cross country for all grades and Seefeld is a highly recommended resort for this. There are over 250km of tracks including the course designed for the 1976 Winter Olympics and the World Championships held in 1985. For some of the most pleasing to the eye runs head to Leutasch, a wide and unspoilt valley basis near Seefeld. Visit www.seefeld-langlauf.at
