Skiing in Aime La Plagne
Made up of ten separate 'villages,' La Plagne is one of the most varied ski resorts in Europe and offers fantastic skiing at altitude. The link with Les Arcs makes the large ski area even bigger (425km of pistes in total) and the glorious views over the Alps (especially from the glacier) are breathtaking. The resort has good snow-making facilities (359 guns) and the lift system is being constantly updated.
Aime La Plagne, one of the 10 villages is not famed for it's beauty, but the surrounding areas and the convenience of the place definitely make up for the lack of nice architecture.
La Plagne is good for beginners, but it is the intermediate's paradise - piste after piste of blues and reds to soar down all day long. The après ski scene isn't huge, but there are plenty of great restaurants to eat in.
La Plagne is popular with families as it offers skiing for all abilities and there is good childcare service available.
The resort consists of the following villages, which are all quite different. This is convenient if you want to stay in a quiet place like Aime La Plagne but go for a few nights out in one of the livelier villages.
Montchavin / Les Coches = both very pretty
Bellecote / Aime la Plagne = less so...
Plagne Centre = good access to slopes. ugly 1960s buildings but more stylish new development
Belle Plagne = central to the Paradiski area (La Plagne & Les Arcs)
Plagne 1800- chalet style buildings create a pleasant looking village
Montchavin- great views of Mount Blanc, close to the Vanoise Express
Montalbert- out of the way a bit, but growing in popularity
Champany- lovely and rustic

Aime La Plagne Mountain Information
La Plagne pistes – over 100 pistes, and the majority of the runs North facing skiing La Plagne gives you a sense of adventure as you ski across to the different villages. The ski resort is open from mid December through to the end of April
Beginners This is an excellent resort to learn in with plenty of nursery slopes. If you have young children learning we'd recommend staying in Les Coches - you might find Plagne 1800 and Montchavin runs back into the village a bit too challenging.
Intermediate Skiers
This is a great resort for intermediates. If you've just got to grips with turning then you will enjoy the vast amount of blue motorway pistes, try the Montchavin area. For those looking for more of a challenge then head over to the red runs like Kamikaze in the Champagny sector or head to 2700m Roche de Mio and make your way down to Les Bauches.
Experts
Our recommendation is to take a guide and explore the untracked off-piste areas. There are a couple of good on piste runs you should check out to including Emile Allais (downgraded from a black to a red run) and the runs from Bellecote (3417m) to the lift below Col de la Chiaupe (2550m) - when the snow is there and they are open they offer a fantastic stretch to the legs.
Cross Country
We thoroughly recommend the cross country here as you have over 29km of trails in the Champagne le Haut region. In total there is probably around 85km of trails that you can explore. Do check the tourist office for more details.
Snowboarders
It's one big vast adventure and if you love a bit of free riding this is a good resort. Pick up a guide and head off piste or explore the wooded areas for some natural jumps and rails.
Paradiski
The Vanoise Express cable car, the only one of its kind in the world gives you access to Paradiski. This is the name for the combined area of both La Plagne and Les Arcs. 242 slopes, 425km of marked runs and loads of fabulour off-piste. This was shut last year but will re open for the 2009 season.
Buy your La Plagne Lift Pass online before you go
You can pre-buy your lift tickets. La Plagne and Paradiski have a loadable card called the par@diski-cartes. Once you have purchased the card you can recharge it with ski passes as many times as you want, up to 48 hours before you ski! Buy La Plagne and Paradiski Lift Tickets here

Top 5 Ski Runs at Aime La Plagne- Biolley (Top of the Becoin Chair out of Plagne Centre) – steep red run down to Plagne CentreGeisha (take Grande Rochette Funiplagne cabel-car) head towards Champagny area, - Geisha is 5km scenic, southfacing.
-
Mont de la Guerre. (take chair up to Rochette Ridge) Arpette-Plagne Bellecote – blue run
Les Verdons Champagny – red not always open but when it is we recommend it as an exciting descent towards Champagny – very scenic too
Top to bottom of Verdons Sud chairlift (take Verdons Sud chair) – often quiet, sunny and south facing, it’s a red run often with some great moguls.
Another great run can be found at the Cul du Nant Glacier, but this will require a guide and a lot of walking. You climb to the top of the south face of Bellecote, from where there are incredible views of right down to Pralognan-la-Vanoise National Park. The descent is very steep and challenging, but worth it for the wild and quiet nature of the surroundings. There is a bit of poling to be done at the bottom unfortunately, which the thrill seekers tend to complain about but it does make the day feel even more rewarding.
Lift Passes
Why not pre-order your lift pass online? As long
as you allow 15 days before arrival in resort they will post your pass
to you anywhere in the world. For more information go to the Tourist
