Description: Arc 1600 was the first to be built and as far as access it suits those travelling by rail as there is a direct link from Bourg St Maurice. It’s pretty and in the tree line. The views of Mt Blanc and the valley are good. It’s quiet in the evening and suits families.


Arc 1800, France


Description: Arc 1800 is the largest of all the villages making up Les Arcs. There is a mix of appartment blocks and also some prettier wooden buildings tucked away in the wooded areas

Description: Arc 2000 is the best located to hit the pistes. The resort of 2000 itself is really just a group of hotels and a few chalets including the Club Med.


Areches, France


Description: Areches is located in the heart of the Beaufortain massif and only 25 km from Albertville. Against the backdrop of Mont Blanc, Arêches-Beaufort is small village .


Argentiere, France

Arosa, Switzerland


Description: Arosa is set on the shores of two picture postcard lakes. It is a beautiful rail journey from Chur which takes under an hour. A well heeled clientelle enjoy its relaxed ambience. There are lots of good restaurants, a casino and winter walking paths so things to do if you are not a skier.


Astun, Spain


Description: Located in the valley of Aragon, Astun is a pretty village 80km from Pau in France. You can expect some beautiful scenery.


Auffach, Austria


Description: Auffach is 7km away from Niederau and is a smaller, quieter village. It is part of the Wildschonau Valley and actually boasts the highest slopes up to 1900m. Please refer to Niederau and Oberau


Auris en Oisans, France


Description: Set near woodland this attractive modern ski station is a family resort where you will find a good ski school / nursery / kindergarten. Expect to have some quiet evenings. There is access to Alpe D’Huez ski area but you may find beginners have a little difficulty returning to the village at the end of the day.


Auron, France


Description: Auron is a good family resort. Built in the 1930's it is the biggest resort in the Alpes Maritime area.

Autrans, France


Description: Autrans is 10km north of Lans en Vercors in the heart of the Vercors


Avoriaz, France


Description: The town itself is designed as a ski-in ski-out resort back in the 60’s and Avoriaz is built on different levels at the edge of a cliff so it’s pretty dramatic. These different levels are connected by internal elevators. Practically all of the accommodation is ski-in ski-out which is a really big bonus. Car free you ski down to the lifts every morning. Getting around when you arrive means hiring baggage sledges for only €1. Frp, 08.00am to 7pm you can hire a sledge to transport you for €5-13 depending on journey length. After these hours you need ot hire a shuttle at aprox €8


Ax Les Thermes, France


Description: Ax-les Thermes is close to Andorra and Font-Romeu and known for being a spa town dating back to Roman times. Positioned on the main A20 road it lies 26km south of Tarascon. It is in a convenient position to enjoy both skiing and walking in the Ariege region. The ski resort has been growing over the last couple of years and now includes some good runs for intermediates and beginners. There are in fact a number of ski resorts within easy reach which cover both downhill and cross country skiing, Bonascre, le Saquet and Campels


Bad Gastein, Austria


Description: The Gastein valley is famous for its spas and wellness centres - there are 17 thermal springs producing 5 million litres of Radon enriched water each day. Bad Gastein is the most well know town set amoungst a large gorge valley and attracts an ever increasing number of British skiiers who enjoy the massive waterfall roaring through the centre of town. A word of warning it is probably best to have a car to enjoiy the whole ski area as the bus service is somewhat limited.


Bad Hofgastein, Austria


Description: Bad Hofgastein is the market town and spa village and the centre of activity in the Gastein Valley in Austria. The centre of the village is pedestrianised - it's a pretty town with lovely views of the surrounding mountains.
