Description: Named after the mountain wolf Pra loup 1500 is a charming mix of chalets, inns and country hotels, B&B and Tables D'Hotes in restored traditional buildings there are lots of great toboganning areas around the villages. Pra Loup 1600 is set on a mountain plateau within the forest, this area is more lively than 1500 and the appartments are taller.

Prapoutel, France
Description: Within the French Alps lies the village Prapoutel, it's part of the Les 7 Laux which includes nearby villages Le Pleynet and Pipay. Prapoutel was a ski resort built in the 1960's by a local politician. It was quite inventive for it's time as it included conservational elements and a high speed lift from the accommodation area. The original plans were drawn up by the designer of Courchevel. The resort is very popular with the thousands of students from nearby Grenoble. It has some fantastic off piste which can be skied out very quickly. As one of the key Isere resorts there has been a lot of investment in new lifts.

Puy 1600 is larger than 1400 and a better location for lift access. Sadly there is a bit of a concrete block right in the middle which is a little ugly! Puy 1400 is the more relaxed of the two resorts and really a sweet little hamlet. Nearby you will find other hamlets like Le Villaret, Les Pres, Les Albers and the original village Le PUy with its churches. Description: In a word - Charming. Saalbach is one of Austria's major resort and is combined with a separate village Hinterglemm 4km away. As middle to upmarket places go it combines the charm of an Austian resort with the convenience of a French one with lifts into three sectors of the slopes from the village centre. Prices aren't cheap but it has a justified reputaion as a party town.

Saas Fee, Switzerland
Description: Saas Fee is a magical place, and often referred to as 'The Pearl of the Alps' It's car free and a kind of mini Zermatt with pretty Valasian farmhouses and buildings giving the taste of the real Switzerland. Good snow is guaranteed throughout the season with its high altitude. Try and visit in the spring sun when the 13 imposing 4000m peaks including the hightest in Switzerland (the Dom 4534m ) are looking their best. One thing about the village itself is that it is completely car free and the only way to get around is to flag down a horse drawn sleigh with carriage or there are small electric vehicles.

Description: There are around 100 or more hamlets that make up the commune in this area. Sainte Foy en Tarentaise has been designed as a replica of a traditional alpine village. The building are very pretty to look and use the local stone, wood, balconies and traditional features. The village has been described as friendly, intimate, unspoilt and a real find. Description: Samoens is one of the prettiest mountain villages and is listed 88th in the French National Office of Historic Monuments, and the only ski resort in France to be so listed. Once a thriving stone-cutting centre, it still retains an ancient church, medieval fountains and a variety of old rustic buildings. It lies at the foot of the Criou mountain and the Grand Massif range and the surrounding scenery is spectacular. The land is fertile and one of the famous products from this area is Reblochon Cheese. Access to the Grand Massif ski area is easy in the eight seater gondola.

Sauze D'Oulx, Italy
Description: Sauze d'Oulx is one of the main ski resorts in the Cialattea ski area. It adjoins Sestriere and Sansiario. It's a pretty resort if you head into the centre of the village and it hosts a good nightlife. You'll find a lot of Italians head up to the resort for a spot of weekend skiing so roads can get very busy. A lot of the accommodation can be quite a walk away from the lifts.
