Scheffau, Austria


Description: A very pretty village in the Ski Welt area, which is the largest in Austria A good centre to stay at with a beautiful white church in the centre. Scheffau is located a the foot of the spectacular Kaiser mountains.


Seefeld, Austria


Description: Seefeld has twice been the venue for the Winter Olympics and is close to Innsbruck. It has a brilliant network for cross country skiing and is generally a very good resort to learn to ski in. Seefeld has a wonderful pedestrianised centre with a number of people who don't even come for the skiing. Upmarket indeed with three 5* hotels as well! Maybe cross country enthusiasts amongst us hould head here because there are around 262km of excellent tracks. Innsbruck is close by too.


Selva Gardena Wolkenstein, Italy


Description: Selva is a village at the heart of the Dolomites, and the best known resort in the Val Gardena -famous for world cup ski races. Some people know this area as the South Tyrol. The resort has a real mix of Italian and Austrian traditions and there are activities for non-skiers too.


Serre Chevalier, France


Description: Serre Chevalier is made up of 13 villages. It's a resort loved by French families and well justified it is. There's plenty to do even if the nightlife might be a bit quiet compared to the larger French Alp resorts.


Sestriere, Italy


Description: The resort of Sestriere is the highest at 2035m within the Vialattea Skiing area. Sestriere first came to life in the 1930's and nowdays is a thriving ski resort, hosting many sporting events including Alpine Skiing and Snowboard World Cup competitions and Alpine Skiing World Championships. For those who can't get enough of skiing the resort holds night skiing and the rest can enjoy the shops.


Sierra Nevada, Spain


Description: In the south of spain with beautiful views from the top of the Atlas mountains to Morocco. A value for money resort, warm and bustling with restaurants and bars. Only 2 hours from the Costa Del Sol the season is a long one of 5 months, whilst a game of golf in Granada is only half an hour away. In the resort itself there is parking underground for 2800 cars. The resort village itself is called Padollano set around a traffic free space with shops and restaurants. If you are driving watch the road up the mountain as it is very narrow and can get icy. The name Sierra Nevada means snowy mountain range.


Soelden, Austria


Description: Lets get the problem out of the way first - traffic. There it wasn't so hard was it as long as you don't walk on the main road. Soelden is a sprawling place along the river that attracts many visitors especially from Germany & Holland. The apres ski is absolutely brilliant here.


Soelden (Hochsoelden), Austria


Description: Only an hour from Innsbruck this is a popular resort and also a bit more expensive than some of the other Austrian resorts due to the proximity. Being such a high resort there is some great glacier skiing and pretty snowsure


Soell, Austria


Description: Soel is one of the nine villages in the ski Welt, the largest ski area in Austria. You will find Ellman, Scheffau at one end and Westendorf a the other. Soll itself is an attractive friendly village with a beautiful lit church at night. The ski slopes are a 15 minute walk away which is a bit of a pain, although there are buses running. Unfortunately these do get a little overcrowded. If you like to walk it may be best to find some accommodation on the edge of the village as to get to the lifts first. It is a very popular choice with British skiers and snowboarders


Soldeu, Andorra


Description: Fun friendly and cheap are words that spirng to mind when describing Soldeau.There are 6 resorts in the Grand Valira area Pas de la Casa, Gran Roug, Soldeau, El Tarter, Canillo and Encamp . All the mountains are linked making it one of the largest ski areas in Europe. Low prices, good ski schools an exceptional nightlife make it a place the Brits love.


St Anton, Austria


Description: The town of St Anton has about 2500 residences and is still full of Austrian hospitality and Tirolean Charm. It sits at the foot of the Arlberg pass and if you keep on heading up the road you will reach St Christoph and over the pass to Stuben. It's a great town for Apres ski which goes on until quite late so if you do want a bit of peace and quiet you could always book accommodation at the Nasserein end where you can head up to the slopes on a gondola each day. If you want to sample the nightlife hop on one of the resort busses.

St Francois Longchamp, France


Description: Doucy Combelouvière is located on the edge of the pine forest and has been designed around the traditional village style with wooden chalet buildings grouped around the central square – the main focus point of the resort Doucy shares the Grand Domaine ski area with Valmorel la belle and there is easy access to the slopes. The resort is an ideal place for families and those who enjoy the more tranquil alpine resorts. The Grand Domaine offer skiers and snowboarders gentle wide slopes around the forest and village going upt the steeper slopes near the. There are some beautiful views of Mont Blanc and the La Lauziere mountain range.


St Gervais, France


Description: St Gervais sits with Mount Blanc towering over it at 4810m. It's a 19th Century spa town half way between Megeve and Chamonix.


St Jean d'Arves, France


Description: An unspoilt pretty mountain village that has retained its charm.


St Jean D'Aulps, France


Description: St Jean d'Aulps is situated in the Chablais area of the Haute-Savoie Department in the Northern Alps.


St Johann im Pongau Alpendorf, Austria


Description: St Johann - Alpendorf lies about 60km south of the city of Salzburg and is the main town in the district. It gives you access to the largest ski fields in Austria. Located 2 miles from St Johann Wagrain - the ski resort of Wagran is plit into two areas, Graffenberg and Gribkareck which are on either side of the village. The Graffenberg area links to Alpendorf. There are a variety of runs to suit all abilities


St Lary Soulan, France


Description: St Lary Soulan is situated in the Haute Pyrennes Department within the Pyrenees, a much underated region. This beautiful mountain village sits on the border of Spain. It offers a peaceful, attractive environment with the houses in traditional stone and the cable car running up the side of the village to tak you to the runs.


St Leger les Melezes, France


Description: St Leger Les Melezes is a small mountain village in the Champsaur Massif in the Haute Alps. It is not far from Gap.


St Martin de Belleville, France


Description: St Martin de Belleville is a pretty village in the Valley de Belleville which lies in the Vanoise mountain range in the Savoie area of the French Alps. It's a lovely family orientated resort with the added benefit of access to the vast 3 Valley ski area. The village itself is traditional with its stone, wood and slate, this is the sort of place you dream of - the true chocolate box image of French Savoie. There are some modern chalets being built but the design is sympathetic so you wont find any concreted 1960 blocks here. If you get a chance visit it in the summer too when the residents line hang colourful window boxes brimming with flowers outside their windows.


St Moritz, Switzerland


Description: An exclusive resort, beautiful mountains and set over the lake San Murezzan. Exclusive is the byword here! Hotels tend to be nothing less than 4 star and remember to pack your credit card for the shops. It's one of the most famous resorts in teh world and the only resort in Switzerland to have hosted the Winter Olympics. St Moritz is split into 2 areas. Dorf and Bad Dorf is the sophisticated town with fashionable shops whilst St Moritz Bad is located next to the frozen lake and much quieter. There's lots to do in the resort besides skiing, with some beautiful winter walks, cinemas, the famous Cresta run - see our activities section below.


St Rhemy en bosses, Italy


Description: Situated in the Gran San Bernardo Valley Near Saint-Rhémy, the last town of the Gran San Bernardo Valley (1519m) lies Crévacol. The south facing position of Crévacol makes it sunny and an ideal place not only for ski lovers, but sun worshippers too. The panoramic terraces of the mountain restaurants at 2000 metres altitude, are perfect for sun bathing.


St Sorlin d Arves, France


Description: A pretty unspoilt traditional mountain village situated up a very windy narrow road. St-Sorlin-D;Arves is open all year round and includes a boulangerie, framgerie, established shops and a baroque church. Because it's built on a ledge the resort stretches along a strip which makes wandering around a bit of a pain. However there are lovely view and it's a nice example of how to mix a modern ski resort with old authentic buildings.


Stumm, Austria


Description: Stumm is a beautiful village and has one ofht emost attractive village squares in the Tirol often used for film shootings. It is located int eh middle of the woirld renowned Zillertal Valley, and is found opposite Kaltenbach. (check out the Kaltenbach resort page for more info)


Super Besse, France


Description: The village of Super Besse is 7km above Besse and Saint-Anstaise on the southern side of Puy de Sancy. Including the ski resort of Le Mont Dore there is 85km of runs.

Superbolquere, France


Description: Bolquere is a recently made ski resort situated in the Languedoc Roussillon Region within the Pyrenees Province. Bolquere sits at 1632 m and is about 2.5m from Font-Romeu. It's other claim to fame is being the highest railway station in France so do check out the little Yellow train . The resort is south facing and Bolquere is both a ski resort and a residential village. There has been a lot of growth over the last few years and the village has spread. You can stay at the foot of the ski runs at Pyrénées 2000, or in chalets in the Superbolquère forest or in the village of Bolquère.


Superdevoluy, France


Description: Superdevoluy lies at the heart of the Hautes Alpes. It is a year round resort with horseriding in the summer and skiing in the winter


Termignon, France


Description: Termignon is found in the upper part of the Maurienne valley in the Savoie region. It's a small village with only 400 permanent residents. Termignon is made up of three villages, Termignon La-Vanoise at 1300m, Sollieres-Sardieres at 1300m and Bramans at 1230m whilst the highest peak is Grand Casse towering above at 3852m. The ski resort is a recent fixture with permission only being given as late as 1985. The plan is to eventually link the resort with Val Cenis
