Hochfugen, Austria


Description: A very good small resort and all the other Zillertel resorts including Mayrhofen are within half and hour by car. Little queues and lots of off piste in the right conditions are available. Linked with Hochzillertal via the lift system opens up 155km of pistes! The town of Fugen is 8 miles away and is good for a day off from the slopes.


Konigsleiten, Wald, Austria




Obertauern, Austria


Description: Very different to many in Austria because it is a purpose built resort. It is build in high rise chalet style very much like a French resort and is ski in, ski out. Guaranteed snow adds to the attraction but beware, there are a lot of flat spots at the bottom of the runs.


Obergurgl, Austria


Description: Obergurgl is to be found at the end of the road past Solden. The good point is that it is highest village in Austria for skiing so the snow should be good. The Germas love it and some Brits return year after year. Another good point is that because it is at the end of the Oetz valley near the Italian border it doesn't get a weekend crowd, hence there are very little queues. A favourite resort for families it opens very early in the season


Fugen, Austria


Description: Fugen is a tiny resort in the Zillertaler region. The slopes are connected to Mayrohofen although it would be useful to have a car to make all the connections. Aslso read about the resorts Zellam Ziller, Kaltenback, Hippach which are all part of the Zillertal ski region


Kaltenbach, Austria


Description: Why Kaltenbach? Well a good reason would be that it gives you direct access via an 8 passenger gondola to Hochzillertal which has 155km of pistes to play with. Known as the Zillertal ski area it comes highly recommended. Great for weekend with 4 airports all in within 2 hours transfer time. If you buy the right pass you can also ski Fugen, Hippach, Mayrhofen (17km away) and Zell am Ziller


Stumm, Austria


Description: Stumm is a beautiful village and has one ofht emost attractive village squares in the Tirol often used for film shootings. It is located int eh middle of the woirld renowned Zillertal Valley, and is found opposite Kaltenbach. (check out the Kaltenbach resort page for more info)


Zell am Ziller, Austria


Description: Zell and Ziller is a former gold mining centre and is considered the main town of the Zillertal valley. It is also the proud home of the oldest private brewery Zillertal Bier. Aschau is 4km away and Kaltenbach is only 8km away


Hippach, Austria


Description: The ski resort of Hippach is part of the Zillertal ski area with access to 52 pistes. All levels of skiers are well catered for . Please refer to Mayrhofen to learn more information about the area. A good reason to stay here is that you can avioid the queue of up to 45 mins at Mayrhofen in teh morning when you are trying to access the Penken you'll be going by your very own Horberg gondola. Also unlike Mayrhofen you can ski back down a the end of the day even if it is on ungroomed pistes.


Mayrhofen, Austria


Description: A major league resort sitting in the flat bottomed Zillertal. Mayrhofen has a charming mainly pedestrianised street thronging with people after 4pm visiting bars, restaurants and shops. It is simply a world renowned resort and deservedly so. It is a civilised place to holiday wheter you are a family or firt timer. There is a free bus service in the village but it can close early around 5pm


Lofer, Austria


Description: Lofer is a traditional Austrian village lying not far north from Saalbach.


Soell, Austria


Description: Soel is one of the nine villages in the ski Welt, the largest ski area in Austria. You will find Ellman, Scheffau at one end and Westendorf a the other. Soll itself is an attractive friendly village with a beautiful lit church at night. The ski slopes are a 15 minute walk away which is a bit of a pain, although there are buses running. Unfortunately these do get a little overcrowded. If you like to walk it may be best to find some accommodation on the edge of the village as to get to the lifts first. It is a very popular choice with British skiers and snowboarders


Scheffau, Austria


Description: A very pretty village in the Ski Welt area, which is the largest in Austria A good centre to stay at with a beautiful white church in the centre. Scheffau is located a the foot of the spectacular Kaiser mountains.


Kitzbuhel, Austria


Description: An old favourite of Snowbrainer Kitzbuhel is a wonderful town, world famous with beautifully coloured buildings especially around the town centre which is traffic free. When we book here we book late having checked the weather tom make sure of the snow.


Zell am See, Austria


Description: Zell am See is on the edge of the Hohe Tauern National Park and located by the side of a lake. A year round resort full of Austrian charm and character. It has a traffic free centre and although small in size there are a good number of shops, bars and clubs


Kaprun, Austria


Description: A lovely village nearby to Zell am See.


Fieberbrunn, Austria


Description: Fieberbrunn is one of the 5 municipalities that make up the Pillerseetal. The name Fieberbrum means farewell and it got its name in 1354 after a princess was healed by taking the waters. The resort is very pretty and a lovely place for a family winter holiday.


Westendorf, Austria


Description: Part of the Kitzbuheler Alpenskipass, Westendorf was voted the most beautiful village in Europe in 1998. It is a cosy cosmopolitan alpine village which sell itself as a good quality family resort.


Ellmau, Austria


Description: Try and stay near the centre of this village which has one of the prettiest settings in the Alps. The village is dotted with cosy bars and cafes and a selection of shops. The locals are very welcoming and the village has a great atmosphere


Oetz, Austria


Description: Oetz is a small but attractive area to ski for beginners and early intermediates. An 8 person gondola takes you to the top in 8 minutes from the base where you will find a decent sized carpark. It is located on the road to Solden and Obergurgl and is considered a family resort.


Niederau, Austria


Description: It is the main resort in the Wildschonau Valley. A little spread out it has a number of shops and restaurants around the gondola. Most of hotels are within 5 minutes of the lift and Niedarau is a good place for beginners & early intermediates. Please also refer to nearby resorts Auffach and Oberau.


Finkenberg, Austria


Description: It's a picture postcard Austrian resort and the scenery is simply stunning.


Kirchberg, Austria


Description: Kirchberg shares the same slopes as Kitzbuhel which is 5km away to the East. So please check out our resort page on Kitzbuhel. It also offers flood light skiing on Thursday and Friday on Gaisberg just across the road. For you inquisitive clients Kirch means church in German adn it probablly the first thing you will notice on arrival. Young and old mingle together and the apres ski is very good, with prices somewhat lower than its esteemed neighbour. Budget Hote - Hotel Kirchenwist T: 5357 2852 is inexpensive hotel right in the centre with good food. Lots of B&B's to choose from two of which are very cheap


St Johann im Pongau Alpendorf, Austria


Description: St Johann - Alpendorf lies about 60km south of the city of Salzburg and is the main town in the district. It gives you access to the largest ski fields in Austria. Located 2 miles from St Johann Wagrain - the ski resort of Wagran is plit into two areas, Graffenberg and Gribkareck which are on either side of the village. The Graffenberg area links to Alpendorf. There are a variety of runs to suit all abilities

Description: Wagrain - the ski resort of Wagrain is split into two areas, Graffenberg and Gribkareck which are on either side of the village. The Graffenberg area links to Alpendorf. Auffach, Austria


Description: Auffach is 7km away from Niederau and is a smaller, quieter village. It is part of the Wildschonau Valley and actually boasts the highest slopes up to 1900m. Please refer to Niederau and Oberau


Wald, Austria


Description: Wald is a small cosy village at 900m and is in the middle of the skiing area. Probably a better place to stay for the less active amongst us. It is the sister village of Wald-Konigsleiten, where most snowboarders/skiers like to stay for the ski-in ski-out aspect.


Flachau, Austria


Description: Flachau is the hometown of the great Herman Maier and is situated 70km south of Salzburg. It is part of the ski Amade area with its 850km/276 lifts available on one pass. Please refer to Wagran as well for more information


Fulpmes, Austria


Description: Both Fulpmes and Neustift are attractive Tirolean villages in the Stubai Valley. There are 4 main ski areas with a total of 130km of pistes available via the Innsbruck Glacier Pass. Fulpmes itself only has limited sking of 20km which best serves the beginners amongst us. Intermediates should head for the Stubai Glacier one of the biggest and best in the world with around 55km of runs on it and the added benefit of guaranteed snow


Oberau, Austria


Description: Oberau is situated between Niederau and Auffach and is part of the Wildschonau Valley. It is the cultural and administrative centre of the valley. An unspoilt village with a traditional feel in a beautiful valley. Please refer to both Niederau and Affach for more information.
