Description: Cauterets is found in the French Pyrenees and is an elegant old spa town. Generally you will find prices here so much cheaper than the big French Alps resorts. Cauterets is full of beautiful hotels and wonderful restaurants. The actual ski area is Cirque du Lys which you get to from the village either by the Lys cable car (2000 skiers/hour) or by car (but you will need chains) Eventually the ski areas of Cauterets and Luz-Ardiden should link which would make a combined ski area of 100km +

Description: Is this place still called Courcheval or is it Moscow on snow? 1850 is the known as one of the No 1 resorts in France with a nightlife to match the status. Quite a dreary centre this doesn't stop the rich, famous and celebrities such as Victoria Beckham visiting on a regular basis. Description: The highest resort in the Pyrenees, Piau Engaly is surrounded by peaks of over 3000m and is close by to Spain, the Aragon Canyons, Néouvielle Natural Reserve, the Pyrénées National Park, the Mont Perdu Massif and its Hangings Glaciers. It is a traffic free resort For Children Maison de Titou day nursery (3 months to 6 years of age) - snow garden (3 to 5 years) - “Petits Fripons” club (6 to 12 years) - ski lessons (over-five) - list of babysitters available at the Tourist Office - special events for children: films, shows etc

Description: Vars is situated between Dauphine, Provence and Italy and it is made up of four villages, Saint-Marcellin, Sainte-Marie, Sainte-Catherine and Les Claux. Vars is a sunny resort in the heart of the Hautes Alpes. It's a great resort for those who love to walk with over 250km of hiking tracks. If you compare it to resorts like Risoul you will find Vars has more amenities.

Val d Isere, France
Description: Val D'Isere valley, part of the Savoie region in the French Alps. It dates back to before Christianity and the ski resort itself was created in 1934. The resort is only 5km from the border of Italy and borders the Vanoise National Park. The resort itself is filled with charming chalets. Nearby Tignes is linked in with the resort and if you can't handle the ski back you can always catch a free bus that runs between 8am and 6pm every 5 minutes and then later in the evening more sporadically (aprox every half hour) If you used to watch Absolutely Fabulous, you'll remember Patsy and Edwina used to talk a lot about Val D'Isere.

Description: La Rosiere is located past Bourg St Maurice on a road towards Petit St Bernard, the pass into Italy which is unfortunately shut at winter. It is a traditional alpine village, somewhat sleepy but nonetheless very friendly. Just past La Rosiere to the East lies the small base of Les Eucherts which is equipped with it's own chair to take you up to the slopes above La Rosiere. There are lots of new recent chalet developments including the classic MGM developments cropping up in so many French resorts these days.

Description: Isola is just 90km from Nice which makes it ideal for a weekend break. It is a high prupose built resort lacking in architectural merit. It was built in the 1960's by a British property company and to be blunt, they didn't do a very good job . Nonetheless where could you spend a morning boarding or stay and relax by the Mediterranean water in the afternoon

Tignes, France
Description: Tignes is a modern built resort and one of the highest in Europe. It's not the prettiest of resorts and you won't find a lot of chocolate box places here. As part of the Espace Killy Area it links up with Val D'Isere with over 300km of runs. There are three villages that make up Tignes : Val Claret , the highest and situated at the foot of the glacier; Tignes Le Lac the largest and with its beautiful setting on the lake , and the modern Tignes Le Lavachet is further down. Two small villages below, Tignes Les Brévières and Tignes Les Boisses, are directly linked to the ski area and provide a more traditional atmosphere with charming chalets, narrow streets and picturesque churches. All five villages are connected by a free bus service.

Description: Bride-Les-Bains is the quiet spa town in the valley below Meribel.Created in 1848 it is renowned for it’s slimming cures. There is a high speed gondola lift that connects to the bottom slopes in Meribel in 25 minutes, so that skiers and boarders have access to the renowned three valleys – Meribel, Mottaret, Courchevel, Les Menuires and Val Thorens It was 'the Olympic Village' and thus home to the athletes participating in the 1992 Winter Olympics.
