Morillon, France

Description: Morillon village was built up around the 16th century church of St Chrisophe in the beautiful Giffre Valley. The resort is on 35 miles (1 hour) from Geneva airport and a 15-minute drive from the motorway exit & TGV train station of Cluses. It is one of the 5 resorts that is part of the giant Grand Massif (Flaine) ski area with 77 lifts covering 265km of piste. At the same time Morillon manages to retain its individual character as a small resort much loved by generations of French families. It holds the official ‘Les p’tits Montagnards’ label for its superb children facilities. We warmly recommend the ‘Village des Enfants’, which cares for skiing and non-skiing children aged between 6 months and 10 years. Weekly torchlight descents, concerts, wine and food tasting, and a variety of activities for children are all part of an extensive winter programme of entertainment. Value-for-money restaurants make eating out a pleasure while a ‘traiteur’ produces first class regional food to take away. Morillon 1100 (Les Esserts), is the the purpose built sport resort 5.5km above Morillon village and is very much a pedestrian family friendly resort with 3000 beds in the middle of the forest. It offers a small selection of restaurants and bars, a few shops and mini-supermarket. The ’Village des Enfants’ children facility is based at Les Esserts.

Courmayeur, Italy

Description: A fabulous place to go if only to watch the world go by. We at Snowbrainer really love this traditional Italian village/town which is just over thw boarder from Chamonix. The village itself is traffic free in the centre and the the apres ski is just brilliant whilst alse being very refined. A little advice, leave your skis and boots up the mountain at the end of day rather than having to walk back into town with them on.

Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy

Description: The town is beautiful and has been described as both voluptous Italian and quaint. It's set in the Dolomite which has some of the most dramatic and beautiful scenery in Europe. Ok so the ladies wear Gucci, Prada and maybe a little fur, which might be a little off putting depending on your taste. You really don't have to ski here to have a good time and you'll find that most of the town rise at a very civilised hour, enjoy a little window shopping, a leisurely coffee and cigarette before heading up for a run. What is good though is our fox furred ladies wouldn't be seen dead on the slopes too early which leaves them all clear for you and your friends. Famous for hosting the 1956 Olympics the resort has little to do with skiing/snowboarding it is now hard to find a ski shop amoungt the cafes and designer outlets.

Bormio, Italy

Ortisei, Italy

Bruneck / Brunico, Italy

Description: Brunico is a town which lies at the foot of the Kronplatz ski area and has a link via the gondola. The town is situated in the the Pluster Valley, in the South Tyrol region and dates back to the stone age. It's seen its fair share of history with floods in the 14th & 19th centuries, the plague in 1543 and various fires and earthquakes!! The town really started to take off in the 1800's with the opening of the Puster Valley railway which led to many visitors to the area. Today you will find a charming, picturesque town which still has some of the ancient walls from medieval times in the town centre. Many years ago this place used to be part of the Austrian Tyrol, so you will still hear German spoke frequently. There is the clue as to why it has two names. The Kronlplatz/ Plan de Corones ski field has some delightful slopes with a brilliant lift system which was built on tax breaks.

Bardonecchia, Italy

Description: In 1909 the first Italian ski championships were held here and the first ski jump. "smith" was built in the same year. San Cassiano, Italy

Sauze D'Oulx, Italy

Description: Sauze d'Oulx is one of the main ski resorts in the Cialattea ski area. It adjoins Sestriere and Sansiario. It's a pretty resort if you head into the centre of the village and it hosts a good nightlife. You'll find a lot of Italians head up to the resort for a spot of weekend skiing so roads can get very busy. A lot of the accommodation can be quite a walk away from the lifts.

Vigo di Fassa, Italy

Marilleva 900 & 1400, Italy

Description: Part of the Tentino ski region that includes resorts like Canazei and Campitello, Marilleva sits at 1400m. It's not the prettiest resort as it includes quite a few concrete blocks. It is however within tree line which helps it's attractiveness

Santa Cristina, Italy

Description: Next door to the Italian resort of Selva and situated in the Val Gardena valley.

Campitello di Fassa, Italy

Description: An enviable postion in the heart fo the Dolomites super ski area offering more than 1200km of scenic interconnected pistes.Campitello is the little sister of Canazei but with the advantage of its Col Radella cable car that enables skiers to beat the queues and be first on the slope in the morning - my mum would like that! There are a number of shops, restaurants and for non skiers a spa centre. A free bus operates in this rustic, pretty village with its narrow streets.

San Martino di Castrozza, Italy

La Thuile, Italy

Description: La Thuille is a resort of parts, a little French in design, purpose built but with a definite Italian flavour. Guests often choose to stay in the old village acroass the river (free bus service to and from).
