Brides les Bains, France

Description: Bride-Les-Bains is the quiet spa town in the valley below Meribel.Created in 1848 it is renowned for it’s slimming cures. There is a high speed gondola lift that connects to the bottom slopes in Meribel in 25 minutes, so that skiers and boarders have access to the renowned three valleys – Meribel, Mottaret, Courchevel, Les Menuires and Val Thorens It was 'the Olympic Village' and thus home to the athletes participating in the 1992 Winter Olympics. Brides-les-Bains has a number of bars and restaurants as well as two nightclubs and the only casino of the Three Valleys, all with prices well below those of Meribel and Courchevel. For non-skiers or après-ski relaxation there is a splendid new spa area based in the town’s famous thermal health centre. The thermal resort at Thermes d'Orsi employs specialists and professionals including doctors, masseurs, dieticians and psychologists who can work out special weight loss and fitness programs, often involving a pleasurable dip in the 36 Celsius thermal pool at Salins, a hydro massage and a visit to the mud bath. Brides-les-Bains is widely recognised as offering an exceptional value for money gateway to one of the world’s most prestigious ski area

Val Thorens, France

Description: Val Thorens is one of the top ski and snowboard resorts in Europe. Thanks to the altitude 99% of the Val Thorens ski area is situated above 2000m and has an impressive amount of snow cannons (1500 in the 3 Valleys area) The season begins on the 24th November 2007 until the 8th May 2008. It offers loads to do for both skiers and non skiers.

Courchevel 1550, France

Description: A much cheaper option than 1850 it is less hectic place than its more famous brother and is is one of the five villages that make up the resort of Courchevel. The other four are Courchevel 1650, Courchevel 1850, Le Praz and La Tania. It is an ideal location for families and is only a 10min gondola ride away from 1850 and this gondola runs until 7:30pm

St Martin de Belleville, France

Description: St Martin de Belleville is a pretty village in the Valley de Belleville which lies in the Vanoise mountain range in the Savoie area of the French Alps. It's a lovely family orientated resort with the added benefit of access to the vast 3 Valley ski area. The village itself is traditional with its stone, wood and slate, this is the sort of place you dream of - the true chocolate box image of French Savoie. There are some modern chalets being built but the design is sympathetic so you wont find any concreted 1960 blocks here. If you get a chance visit it in the summer too when the residents line hang colourful window boxes brimming with flowers outside their windows.

La Tania, France

Description: Set in the middle of a pine forest it is a great base to discover the 3 Valleys. It is located between Le Praz (Courcheval 1300) and Meribel, which are both only 2 lifts away

Meribel Mottaret, France

Description: Mottaret sits above Meribel Centre and is a modern built satellite station of Meribel. It's quieter than Meribel centre so if you are looking to party either chip in and hire a taxi for a night out or look to stay closer to Meribel. Having said that there are still some great bars and lets face it, the access to Les Menuire, Val Thorens and up to Courchevel is much better from this position.

Courchevel 1850, France

Description: Is this place still called Courcheval or is it Moscow on snow? 1850 is the known as one of the No 1 resorts in France with a nightlife to match the status. Quite a dreary centre this doesn't stop the rich, famous and celebrities such as Victoria Beckham visiting on a regular basis. To be fair the skiing into the 3 valleys is brilliant - everybody should visit this resort at least once in their life. It's a fantastic base with Michelin starred restaurants,

Meribel Centre, France

Description: As far as ski resorts go it’s got to be one of the all time British favourites. Meribel is situated in the middle of the world’s largest ski area – The Three Valleys. The links to Courchevel, Les Menuires and Val Thorens means there is enough skiing for a good couple of weeks, or a whole season if you are lucky enough to get the time off. The Chalet style, wood clad, buildings throughout the village make it one of the prettier purpose built resorts in the valley. It does have a tendency to sprawl across a wide area, but with those upmarket chalets and little if none high rise buildings it’s an easy price to pay for charm. Getting around the resort is fairly easy, there is some accommodation right on the piste, otherwise you need to catch busses around the resort which are free with a valid lift pass. The main part of the town is on the west facing slopes with a road winding up to Rond Point Des Pistes, Altitude 1600, Plateau de Morel and then further on to Altiport which is up in the wooded area. If you head further up the valley you reach Meribel-Mottaret. Building wise there is less charm than Meribel, however the access to the slopes is much better. If you are after the bars, restaurants and nightlife you are probably better off staying in Meribel.

Meribel Village, France

Description: Meribel Village is a mini resort located on the road from Meribel to La Tania. There is much less to do than in Meribel but the village is very relaxing and if you are looking for peace and a pleasant setting this is perfect. Meribel in General As far as ski resorts go it’s got to be one of the all time British favourites. Meribel is situated in the middle of the world’s largest ski area – The Three Valleys. Superbolquere, France

It's other claim to fame is being the highest railway station in France so do check out the little Yellow train . The resort is south facing and Bolquere is both a ski resort and a residential village. There has been a lot of growth over the last few years and the village has spread. You can stay at the foot of the ski runs at Pyrénées 2000, or in chalets in the Superbolquère forest or in the village of Bolquère.

La Massana, Andorra

Description: La Masanna is possibly the nicest town in Andorra it is well placed for access to the Vallnord ski areas of Pal and Arinsal via a ski lift. There are a number of restaurants and bars and the nightlife is relaxed

Arinsal, Andorra

Description: Very British as is all of Andorra, Why? Cheap, Cheap, Cheap. And new lift systems help. The Brits love it and in particular Arinsal. It is a long narrow village undergoing redevelopment. Stay in the middle if you can. Another big plus is the friendliness of the locals

Pal, Andorra

Description: Pal is a picturesque quiet mountain village just over from its more illustrious neighbour Arinsal. By road the journey is about 5km. Do have a look at Arinsal to learn more about the resort. Ample car parking makes it a popular choice for locals at weekends but lift lines are not much of a problem.

Valfrejus, France

Description: Valfrejus is situated just above Modane. As you head up the mountain you will see the traditional rustic stone and wood houses and once you have reached the hamlet of Charmaix you will discover Valfrejus - a new resort built for skiing and hiking. New it may be but it is situated in the forest and they have tried to be sympathetic, keep some charm and pedestrianise areas.

Super Sauze, France

Morgins, Switzerland

Avoriaz, France

Description: The town itself is designed as a ski-in ski-out resort back in the 60’s and Avoriaz is built on different levels at the edge of a cliff so it’s pretty dramatic. These different levels are connected by internal elevators. Practically all of the accommodation is ski-in ski-out which is a really big bonus. Car free you ski down to the lifts every morning. Getting around when you arrive means hiring baggage sledges for only €1. Frp, 08.00am to 7pm you can hire a sledge to transport you for €5-13 depending on journey length. After these hours you need ot hire a shuttle at aprox €8

Morzine, France

La Thuile, Italy

Description: La Thuille is a resort of parts, a little French in design, purpose built but with a definite Italian flavour. Guests often choose to stay in the old village acroass the river (free bus service to and from). Courmayeur is easily reached by car while La Rosiere over the border in France extens the options of where to ski. Look out for those St Bernard Dogs.
