|
Megeve, France
Description: A high class resort where fur coats go on show. Megeve is a traditional village which has been attracting skiers since the 1920's who come as an alternative to St Moritz. In later years it has been Courcheval that attracts the glitzy money or should that be Russian, but don't discount this resort especially if it snows . A pedestrianised partly medieval centre just adds to the attraction as do the horse drawn sleighs. In a nutshell, rustic chic but will global warming mean the end or just the end to the low lifts. Perhaps not as it is close to Mount Blanc and the lower pastural land doesn't need all that much snow to have a good cover. But who knows, Snowbrainer suggests you go before it is too late .

There are three villages that make up Tignes : Val Claret , the highest and situated at the foot of the glacier; Tignes Le Lac the largest and with its beautiful setting on the lake , and the modern Tignes Le Lavachet is further down. Two small villages below, Tignes Les Brévières and Tignes Les Boisses, are directly linked to the ski area and provide a more traditional atmosphere with charming chalets, narrow streets and picturesque churches.
